  • If you arrive by plane to Tbilisi

Many people get to Svaneti by flying to Tbilisi via Riga (airBaltic), Munich (Lufthansa), Warsaw (LOT),  Amsterdam (Georgian Airways) or Istanbul (Turkish Airlines). There are also direct connections to Tbilisi also from Aktau, Almaty, Astana, Athens, Bahrain, Baku, Bejing, Dnipropetrovsk, Doha, Dubai, Frankfurt, Yerevan, Kharkiv, Kyiv, London, Minsk, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Odessa, Paris, Prague, Rostov-on-Don, Sharjah, Saint Petersburg, Tehran, Tel Aviv, Ürümqi, Vienna, Yekaterinburg and Yerevan (list subject to change).

We may pick you up at the airport in Tbilisi and take you by car, jeep or minibus directly to the hotel, with some stops on the way. This is only possible if you inform us of your arrival well in advance. Please, send an e-mail to: info@grandhotelushba.com .  The trip from the airport to the hotel takes between 8 and 10 hours.

If you wish to travel by public transport, you can take a taxi or the airport train from the airport directly to Tbilisi central railway station (Vagzlis moedani - ვაგზლის მოედანი). The airport train takes around 25 minutes and has infrequent  departures. From the minibus station on the western side of Tbilisi central railway station there is a daily minibus departure to Svaneti around 6 in the morning, while from the subway station Samgori there is a minibus departure at 7 in the morning.  It is recommended to be there in good time to ensure a seat on the minibus. Inform the minibus driver that you are going to the hotel next to the village of Mazeri. You will have to walk the last part of the road from Doleswip unless you get a ride with someone or inform us in advance so that we can pick you up. The minibus trip via Zugdidi takes around 8 – 12 hours with several stops on the way. Please, note that driving culture in Georgia is somewhat tougher than elsewhere in Europe. Up in the mountains of Svaneti, the roads slow down the speed in a natural way.

It is possible to take the morning train at 08.10 or the nigth train at 21.50 from Tbilisi Central station to Zugdidi. The morning train arrives at 13.55 and the night train at 06.05. From Zugdidi you can  take a minibus or jeep to Svaneti.

There is a small airport in Mestia, Svaneti.  From Tbilisi and Kutaisi Vanilla Sky offers regular flights to Svaneti. Tickets can be ordered by e-mail: mari@vanillasky.ge .  From the airport in Mestia, Svaneti there are approximately 26 km to the hotel.  We can organise transfers in advance. Taxis and transportation may also be arranged on spot.

More and more people arrive via Kutaisi International airport. Wizzair.com flies to Kutaisi from Berlin, Budapest, Dortmund, Katowice, Kaunas, Larnaca, London, (Luton), Memmingen (Munich), Milan Malpensa, Thessaloniki, Warsaw.  Ukrainian International Airlines have good connections from Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odessa and Ural Airlines flies from Moscow and Saint Petersburg. From Kutaisi International airport the transfer to Svaneti takes around 4 hours. There is  a minibus stop right outside the airport terminal, from where you may catch minibuses bound for Zugdidi, from where you can take a minibus further to Svaneti.

It is possible to get to Svaneti by flying into Batumi in the Georgian autonomous republic of Adjara. Turkish Airlines flies almost daily from Istanbul to Batumi. There are also direct connections from Kyiv and Yerevan to Batumi (schedule is subject to change). From Batumi there is a bus connection to Zugdidi from where it is possible to go by minibus or jeep to Svaneti.
