  • Museum trip to Mestia

The largest museum in Svaneti is located in Mestia. Among the greatest sights at the Museum for History and Etnography are the old gospel books from the 9th to the 13th century as well as beautiful icons and crosses. The oldest icons date back to the 9th century.

Mestia has an interesting museum dedicated to the Svan mountain climbing legend Mikheil Khergiani (1932 - 1969). He was the great climbing star not only in Svaneti and Georgia, but in the entire Soviet Union.  He frequently won big mountain climbing competitions and was in the end called the „mountain tiger” by British experts for his ability to climb fast in difficult mountains.

Both museums can be visited during this day trip which also includes a tasty lunch in Mestia. Registration for the trip is through the hotel at least 2 days in advance.
