The building housing Grand Hotel Ushba was raised in 1975, but rebuilt as a hotel in 2009/2010. The building has always belonged to the Svan Argvliani family.  One of the family members has led the renovation work and made furniture for the hotel himself. Another family member is a well-known Svan mountain guide and takes hotel guests on mountain walks in the beautiful surroundings around the hotel. The mother of the family is an expert on Svan food.
