Due to its high altitude, Svaneti cannot boast the same proud wine traditions as elsewhere in Georgia, but in terms of cuisine, the Svan kitchen does not lag behind the Georgian. Agriculture and cattle breeding are the most important industry for people in the mountains. Khachapuri – bread with cheese inside – is at least just as tasty here as further south.  Kubdari is considered to be the Svan national dish – bread filled with meat.
